Alpha

Alpha is an opportunity to explore life, faith, and God with others. It is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, run over ten weeks. Each talk looks at a different question about faith, followed by small groups designed to create friendly, open, and informal discussions. Alpha is run by organizations all over the world, and everyone is welcome.

What is Alpha?

What to Expect

Alpha is for anyone who is curious

The talks are designed to encourage conversation and explore the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open, and informal environment. No question is out of bounds, and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish.

Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. We start with food because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other.

We use the Alpha Film Series, which is filmed for a modern audience, all around the world, and features interviews with world-famous leaders and inspiring stories. Two hosts, Toby Flint, and Gemma Hunt, join Nicky Gumbel, the pioneer of Alpha, to unpack the basics of the Christian faith in an engaging way. They explore the big issues around faith and address questions such as “Who is Jesus?” and “How can we have faith?” and “Why and how do I pray?”

The discussion time is probably the most important part of any Alpha. This is the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly, and open environment.
