COVID-19 and Highland Park Pres - All Wednesday night and other mid-week activities at Highland Park Pres are being canceled

Highland Park Pres Family,

Our church is called to care for our congregation in all respects, including the physical well-being of our church family. Over the past few weeks the leadership of Highland Park Pres has been monitoring COVID-19 developments and preparing to take action in the event of the virus appearing in our community.

Although there have been no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in our extended Highland Park Pres family, there have been presumptive positive cases in our city, and as of today, several nearby schools have chosen to close. Out of an abundance of caution, the Day School and Hillier School, which meet on campus at Highland Park Pres, are beginning their Spring Break early and closing their schools as of tomorrow, March 12. All Wednesday night and other mid-week activities at Highland Park Pres are being canceled in order to perform a thorough deep-cleaning of our campus.

At this time, local and state officials are not recommending the cancellation of corporate church services. Highland Park Pres will continue to have worship services this Sunday. In the event that local and state health officials do recommend closure, or we determine it is in the best interest of our Highland Park Pres family to close, we will inform everyone to the best of our abilities through our website, emails, and social media.

If you are immunocompromised, or are experiencing any symptoms of sickness, please stay home this Sunday.

What’s next?

  • Worship online. Bookmark hppres.org/live and go there this Sunday morning at 8:45, 10, or 11:15 am to watch our regular services from the comfort of your home.
  • In addition to our already rigid cleaning practices, Highland Park Pres has contracted a commercial medical grade deep-cleaning company which specializes in sanitizing spaces in situations like ours.

What can I do?

  • Stay informed. We will be sending out future updates to let you know when events and gatherings at Highland Park Pres will resume their normal schedules. Be aware of the latest news from the CDC and Dallas County Health Services.
  • Stay vigilant. Stay home if you feel ill. Know and follow the CDC’s guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19.
  • Continue to pray. As Bryan Dunagan shared in an email last week to our church family, “we want to be a people of prayer, not panic. Pray diligently for those who are ill, vulnerable to illness, and their families. Pray for those who are serving and providing care both in this country and around the world. Pray for governments, public health leaders, and for those who are working steadfastly for the healing of everyone affected.”
  • Questions or concerns? If you’d like to share your thoughts, concerns, questions, and ideas with us as we navigate our response to this situation, we’d love to hear from you. Please contact us

While we cannot control the virus, its spread, or the impact it has in our church, we’re doing everything we can to make this campus as safe and clean as possible. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to help us do just that. As the apostle Paul wrote in 2 Timothy 1:7, “For the Spirit of God does not make us timid, but gives us power, love, and self-discipline.” Our prayer is that God will fill all of us with these gifts, no matter what comes our way.
