On Sunday, October 20, damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes hit many parts of our city causing severe destruction. Just a few miles away, Primera Iglesia Bautista, the First Mexican Baptist Church of Dallas, was shook with the reality of this disastrous storm. Their worship building was destroyed leaving just scraps of the place they called their church home. The devastation weighed heavy on the hearts of their church of about 200.
In the middle of such adversity, we have an amazing opportunity to demonstrate to others the same generosity God has shown us. Highland Park Pres heard of Primera Iglesia Bautista’s loss and sent out our Disaster Relief team. Their mission is to provide immediate assistance to those who suffer tragedy all around the world. In this case, they had the chance to meet face-to-face with Pastor Ricardo Brambila to provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support to our neighboring church family.
The team took an unanimous vote on site to provide Primera Iglesia Bautista with a van since their church transportation was totaled in the storm. This relationship—though sprouting from a heavy tragedy—was evidence of God’s gracious and uniting love. He has been so faithful in the holy moments of service and sacrifice throughout Dallas.
