Second Sundays at Grace Church Lake Highlands

In their monthly gatherings, Grace Church Lake Highlands boasts of rooting themselves in prayer first. Second Sundays take place on the lawn of Youth Believing in Change on Stults Road. Safely spread out with an array of picnic blankets, fold-out chairs, and park benches, the Grace Lake Highlands launch team worships, prays, and talks through their vision and values. This time of preparation before launching in January 2021 has been a sweet chance for the launch team to connect and pray expectantly for their Lake Highlands neighbors.

On Sunday, September 13, Pastor Charlie Dunn encouraged the launch team to reflect on the words of a familiar song they had just sung in worship—“Let us become more aware of his presence.” This call to Holy Spirt awareness opened up a time of small group prayer shaped by five prompts focused on the vision and mission of Grace LH:

  1. Pray that in our individual lives—amidst whatever concerns we are facing, amidst whatever is competing for our loyalty—we would be encouraged and captivated by God’s presence
  2. Pray for the return of the kids to after-school programs at YBC. Pray that in this very place, through the staff and volunteers, they would encounter the loving, healing presence of God
  3. Pray for our neighbors in Lake Highlands. Pray that God would awaken in them a longing—even if they don’t yet know what it is—to encounter the presence of God, to know God personally.
  4. Pray for us in our various callings – with our coworkers, with other students, with those we serve, with our family members, etc.— that we would be more aware of how we can bring the presence of Jesus to them.
  5. Pray for our worship gatherings starting in January—that people would encounter the presence of God, as we worship in this place.

We are so excited and expectant for all God has in store for our newest church plant. Join us and the Grace LH team in prayer as we look towards its launch in January 2021. Want to learn more about Grace Church Lake Highlands? Visit
