Session Update – April 28, 2020

The Session of Highland Park Presbyterian Church is the ruling body of our congregation, charged with governance, overseeing the Church’s spiritual health, and guiding its mission for Christ in the world. In order to better do this, the Session communicates frequently with the congregation of HP Pres to report its decisions and activities. You can visit the Elders page (hppres.org/elders) to see other updates from the Session and to send messages to our Elders and pastors.

April 28, 2020 - Session Update

HP Pres Family,

On Monday, April 28, our Session met after a day of fasting to discuss and pray for our family of churches. Thank you to the many members of our congregations who joined us for a day of prayer and fasting. You’re invited to join us monthly in this spiritual practice, and you can learn more about how to participate at hppres.org/fast

Below are some of the highlights from the meeting that you should be aware of and praying for during this next month. If you have questions or feedback about any of these topics, you can contact the Session at hppres.org/elders

  • Our elders discussed how to maximize online resources to best engage all generations.
  • The Session reviewed ministry activities that have taken place during the COVID-19 crisis, including online worship, classes and courses, Alpha, Starting Point, online small group gatherings, and more.
  • The Session also reviewed the updated ways that we are serving our city, including partnerships with local non-profits, food pantries, churches, and more. Among other things, we are on track to spend $500,000 to fight food insecurity. Thank you for your generous giving which has made this possible. Learn more about your impact at https://www.hppres.org/stories-blogs/posts/our-city-impact
  • Our elders held a discussion on the eventual re-opening of on-campus activities at Highland Park Presbyterian Church. While dates for re-opening are far from determined, the Session is dedicated to a slow, safe, and gradual reopening, which follows the guidelines from the CDC, WHO, and Dallas county.
  • Our Campus Vision team gave a report about construction progress on our campus. Essential work on our building continues, and in many ways our campus closure has allowed for a faster construction schedule. The Hunt building is quickly coming together, and preparation for construction of the Gym and assembly of a crane on the east side of our campus is well underway.
  • Our church planting team reported that big steps have taken place with our Lake Highlands church plant, which has been officially named Grace Church Lake Highlands. Thank you to everyone who attended our church plant interest meeting. Be on the lookout for more details about the next member in our family of churches soon.
  • The finance and stewardship teams reported that giving to our General Operating Budget this past month was strong, and that the funds from the PPE have been received as well. By giving to Highland Park Pres, you are supporting our mission of helping people find and follow Jesus, and serving those who are most vulnerable in our city and world. Thank you for your generosity, which enables us to extend compassion and hope to those affected by COVID-19. www.hppres.org/give
