Session Update – June 22

The Session of Highland Park Presbyterian Church is the ruling body of our congregation, charged with governance, overseeing the Church’s spiritual health, and guiding its mission for Christ in the world. In order to better do this, the Session communicates frequently with the congregation of HP Pres to report its decisions and activities. You can visit the elders page ( to see other updates from the Session and to send messages to our elders and pastors.

June 22, 2020 – Session Update

HP Pres Family,

On Monday, June 22, our Session met after a day of fasting to discuss and pray for our family of churches. Thank you to the many members of our congregations who joined us for a day of prayer and fasting. You’re invited to join us monthly in this spiritual practice, and you can learn more about how to participate at

Below are some of the highlights from the meeting that you should be aware of and praying for during this next month. If you have questions or feedback about any of these topics, you can contact the Session at

  • The Session continued their conversation on leading Highland Park Pres through the topics of race, justice, and flourishing. An online Growth Course on this topic will soon be offered for our congregation. You can learn more about our church family’s stance on these topics, and see resources that are helpful for educating yourself, at
  • The conversation about gradually reopening Highland Park Pres continued. While Outdoor Worship on our Front Lawn has been well received, the Session is continuing to monitor important metrics in Dallas in relation to COVID-19 before making further decisions on reopening. You can always see the latest reopening plan at
  • The Session approved new bylaws after a second reading by the Governance Coordinate Committee that keeps Highland Park Pres in step with our denomination (ECO) and clarifies committee structure on the Session.
  • The Session held a preliminary discussion on updating the 2020–21 budget to match the updated role of our church in light of COVID-19 and to be in line with expected giving.
  • The Campus Vision team gave an update on the exciting progress being made on our Transform project. Construction is going well and ahead of schedule in many ways. View the latest photos at
  • Giving is going well and is ahead of schedule on the Transform project, but a small difference is expected between giving and expenses before the end of this year. To this end, a small loan with favorable terms has been approved by the Session.
