Session Update – May 18, 2020

The Session of Highland Park Presbyterian Church is the ruling body of our congregation, charged with governance, overseeing the Church’s spiritual health, and guiding its mission for Christ in the world. In order to better do this, the Session communicates frequently with the congregation of HP Pres to report its decisions and activities. You can visit the Elders page (hppres.org/elders) to see other updates from the Session and to send messages to our Elders and pastors.

May 18, 2020 – Session Update

HP Pres Family,

On Monday, May 18, our Session met after a day of fasting to discuss and pray for our family of churches. Thank you to the many members of our congregations who joined us for a day of prayer and fasting. You’re invited to join us monthly in this spiritual practice, and you can learn more about how to participate at hppres.org/fast

Below are some of the highlights from the meeting that you should be aware of and praying for during this next month. If you have questions or feedback about any of these topics, you can contact the Session at hppres.org/elders.

  • The Session discussed the potential of a gradual reopening plan for in-person worship at Highland Park Pres. The gradual reopening will not begin in the coming weeks, and no date has yet been chosen. The leadership of HP Pres is committed to reopening when the safety of our members and guests can be protected while offering a high quality Sunday morning worship experience. You can help us make wise decisions surrounding reopening by filling out our reopening survey at hppres.org/survey
  • The Governance Coordinating Committee shared a first reading of a motion to update our Governance Documents in order to align our governance model and structural organization with the requirements of ECO and our Articles of Incorporation.
  • The Session held a preliminary conversation about the 2020–2021 fiscal year budget.

Seeking to glorify him,
The Session Communication Team
