Uniquely Gifted

In 2015, Emily Scates taught a classroom of elementary kids about the power of God’s redemptive love. As the class ended, a friend of Emily’s, Lauren Eastburn, approached her saying: “You’re gifted uniquely as a preacher and teacher, and I see this in you.” Lauren encouraged Emily to continue to cultivate this gifting that came so clearly from the Lord. This moment would prove to be pivotal in Emily’s life with Christ, and she has since followed God’s call to full-time ministry, dedicating her gifts to tell others about Jesus.

“For many of us, hearing that the Holy Spirit has given us gifts is exactly what we need to hear to step out in faith,” Emily describes. The body of Christ is rich with various talents and callings in order to bring others into his fold. “I started to wonder,” Emily continues. “What would it look like if we, as a church, were fully invested in our gifts?” In looking at the mission and vision God has for our family of churches, this has ignited and excited Emily’s heart toward helping others identify their purpose and role in God’s grand redemptive story.

Spiritual Gifts is 3-week growth course being offered this Spring, starting February 23. This class starts with the understanding that disciples of Jesus are handmade, not mass produced. By looking at how God has crafted each one of us with specific gifts, life experiences, and perspectives, we are taking a step toward pursuing his plan for our lives.

At Highland Park Pres, we are committed to the God-sized goal of 100% of our covenant partners growing as transformed followers of Jesus. Growth Courses are an incredible opportunity to deepen your faith through intergenerational relationships, transformative teaching, and discussing important topics.
