As COVID-19 hit, our Highland Kids ministry was faced with a tough question: how can we keep our kids and families safe this summer, and still transform lives with the power of the Gospel? The answer quickly became clear: move VBS online and have our first ever VBS@home.
When we moved Vacation Bible School online, we had no idea that we would reach over 2,000 views, each with a crew of littles ones joining together around the TV or computer screen. And, with our lessons remaining online, that number keeps going up as more and more families here in Dallas and around the world discover our VBS videos on YouTube. What an amazing and surprising gift it has been to move VBS online this year.
Amid this unprecedented time, VBS reached beyond our normal filled Sanctuary, but was watched in seven states and two countries outside of our Dallas home. The chance to participate from afar allowed 10-year-old, Blyss, to join in from Shreveport, Louisiana. Each day she danced in worship, laughed and learned from the stories of Moses and Malachi, and grew to love and trust God with all her heart. At the end of the week, she prayed with her daddy to invite Jesus to be lord of her life. She described that this special prayer made her feel like something heavy was lifted, and she felt so light that she could fly!
We are so thankful that God blew our expectations out of the water with 2020’s VBS. Though we may never see every fruit that comes from these lessons, we are thankful to hear of family connecting over the living Gospel of Jesus. Join us in praying that the truth of God’s Word continues to take root and grow in the hearts of these kids.
