We just finished a month-long journey into and through the most amazing story Jesus ever told, about a father and two lost sons (Luke 15:11-32). There's a little detail in the parable where the prodigal son returns home and his father gives him the family ring (Luke 15:22). This ring wasn't just a precious heirloom. It was the family signature ring, used to seal official documents. In giving him this ring, the Father is giving authority to his younger son to manage the rest of his wealth and to join in the family business. What extravagant, empowering love this father has for lost children!
Do you know that as daughters and sons of God, we've been entrusted with the privilege (and yes the responsibility) of joining him in the family business? To be clear, this is not about earning anything from our Heavenly Father. We are entrusted with the dignity of serving alongside God in the renewal of all things.
This Sunday, we turn our focus to the sacred calling of every Christ follower to clothe, feed, and serve those Jesus calls "the least of these" in Matthew 25. I can't wait for you to meet Richard Stearns, the president of World Vision, and a leading voice for the church in our day. Rich will no doubt share from his own personal story of waking up to the whole gospel--one in which we participate in the transformation of the entire world.
I hope you can join us for this powerful weekend!
Grateful to serve alongside you,
